Just wanted to make a quick Sunday morning post and share with you my new linen blazer. I was just grabbing a quick coffee before a walk in the park, so I settled for a comfortable look but with a touch of polish. Sundays are pretty relaxing and I enjoy dressing the part 
On relaxing Sundays, I usually stay away from make-up and go for a messy bun or a ponytail. No muss…no fuss!I’ve been studying non-stop this entire weekend which doesn’t leave me that much time for priming.It was nice to just unwind with my mom
I was never the one to consider buying a white boyfriend blazer, until I came across this one. There was something so intriguing about it. Maybe because I’ve never considered purchasing one.Maybe because linen gives everything a very casual feel. I am not sure why. But the moral of the story is do not be afraid to try new things. Although I was not planning on making this purchase, I could not denie a fact that it would be a great addition to my current wardrobe as well as a great way to make some of my favorites feel fresh again!I love how it works with everything and how summer perfect it is.I would have to say that it is a fantastic warm weather staple.
The downside to this beauty is the wrinkling! Linen wrinkles quite a bit :S Ironing is pretty much a necessity every time you want to wear the jacket. I am looking into picking up a steamer, any suggestions???? Luckily, this blazer does not require dry cleaning as I tend to stay away from them— too many horror stories.
In the meantime, here are some care rules for linen that I found while doing my research 
Linen Care
♥ Linen is comprised of long fibers found in the stalk of the flax plant. These natural “yarns” wick moisture away from the skin to help create the fabric’s light, airy feeling. The drawback, however, is that the “breathing” fibers are quite stiff. Once they bend, they stay bent, and the result is linen’s trademark wrinkles. Even more frustrating is that the more you sweat, the more the fabric wrinkles.
♥ Linen shirts and pants can be machine-washed in a gentle cycle in warm water, or preferably, hand-washed or dry-cleaned. Repeated hand or machine washings make linen soft, thereby eventually reducing wrinkling, while dry cleaning keeps it crisp and new-looking. And like with most garments, it’s a good idea to read the care labels before washing.
♥ It’s in linen’s best interest to never see the inside of a dryer. Ideally, you should let a freshly-washed linen garment air-dry, whether by laying it flat on a towel or hanging it from a padded wooden hanger.
- If you’re ironing linen, do so on a high setting, while the garment is still damp. The dampness guards against burning the linen; the fabric dries quite fast. Iron first on the inside of the garment to remove wrinkles, and then on the outside to create a nice sheen. Also, be sure to iron until the linen is smooth , not dry. When it’s to your liking, begin air-drying. As well, avoid folding your linen items; hanging is preferable.
♥ Linen is definitely a summer perfect material, however the time and care that is requires is not every one’s favorite. So, I am sending out a warning. Anything linen means high-maintenance. Be Aware

On a completely different side of a spectrum I found this very interesting article about Sex and the City and its influence on female shopping!!! Basically, it is saying that the sitcom and the movie have women convinced that self-indulgence and designer clothes were every woman’s right. Although I must admit that I drool over the girls wardrobe and their lifestyle, I never actually take the series/movies seriously. Although they do leave me craving for all of the beautiful luxuries, I do not try to apply such ideals to my lifestyle. What do you think… does Sex and the City leaving you craving for designer goodies?? Do the movies/sitcom have any type of influence over you??? Do you think that the storyline sets a wrong example for women?

Love this laid back look. The blazer looks fabulous on you - but I for one can’t bear the ridiculous wrinkling and excessive ironing that comes with wearing linen, although I do love it when I see it on other people.

Gorgeous blazer! I have the same problem with my linen pants; they wrinkle wayyy too much but I’ve just learned to let it go. I don’t think there is anything you can do to prevent it.
As for the SATC thing, I think that people can be influenced to buy a bunch of designer goods from just about any sitcom / show on TV nowadays, its just part of our culture to want these things. SATC may be a good example of the types of shows that promote this, but its certainly not the only example!
Aww…my last day of classes are not till this friday. Well good luck for the final. I can’t wait to get over with mine. Summer classes are so tedious and fast~ no time to sit back and relax the beautiful weather. Lovely blazer, I am currently coveting a navy inspired striped blazer from Anthropologie’s new collection. I adore your outfit, very sporty but I love how you have worn the a wang sweats with a bustier, gives the whole look a feminine twist.
Sex and the City 2 nearly killed my love for the show. I found the whole thing incredibly patronising towards women. Apart from the terrible acting and story line, the whole film was basically a two hour commercial. It certainly didn’t leave me craving for anything! In spite of the terrible sequel, I will forever love the show, for it’s wit and wonderful clothes. Who can’t forget the enchanting oscar de la renta that alexander petrovsky gave to carrie in season six? Such a magical moment!
Anyway my dear, I’m rambling far too much. But so delighted i’ve fallen upon your blog. You have a wonderful sense of style.

You look lovely as usual Marta! I grew up in a very hot country so linen has always been a staple, although I agree that it is quite high maintenance. I highly recommend getting a steamer - they make ironing so easy!

satc - what can i say?! i loved the show, i really hated the first movie - i ignored the second..
i always liked the world the show illustated.. it would be nice, if a simple column-writer could afford 5 pairs of manolos and choos in a month, who can afford to go to the fanciest restaurants becaus her cooking skills are beyond pathetic… it would be nice, but it’s just not how it goes, if your name is not plum sykes or anna wintour.
anyhoo, i read your blog religiously, and have been reading it, from the beginning (har, har!! i am your biggest faaaan!!!
) - and i want to say that although some would fight me on this one, i think that your style is soooo much better than carrie’s. you are a true fashion role model, i applaud you. most girls in the world would love to have carrie’s closet - i just want yours.

And on Sex & the City, I think they made it okay to like designer items. Whereas before designer items pretty much seemed exclusive to wealthy socialites with old families who made lots of money, now labels like Lanvin or Chanel seem available to the working woman. Albeit this working woman works very hard and is not buying these items with the idea that debt is right around the corner!

I love the crisp and classic feel your outfit has with the white boyfriend blazer, its stunning!
As for SATC, I love the show and the first movie; sadly I have yet to see the second one but am greatly anticipating it. I love that the women are portrayed as smart yet sexy and excel in their areas of careers yet indulge in various antics. Since it is easy to get swept up into their lavish lifestyles, I constantly have to remind myself that it is just a television show meant purely for entertainment. While some women are lucky to be able to afford a lavish lifestyle that is portrayed, most women need to take the show with a grain of salt and use it as inspiration but not realistically. I would love to have Samantha’s career with Carrie’s wardrobe in Charlotte’s appartment with Miranda’s biting wit; however for a young college student it is realistically unattainable right now. However, I still love the entire series/movies and will conitnue to watch in awe.
