Hello Darlings, “Why are you still single?” – after a year and a half of being happily single, I’ve grown to take that question with side of humor. From first dates, grand parents or even people you meet at dinner parties all have this need to figure out what may be your underlying issue as to why you’re still single. From a first impression she’s amazing and the chances are it is because she is, so the next phase of concern is trying to figure out what may possibly be wrong. Never having the need to answer that question but more often have found a million and one creative ways to dodge that bullet, I finally decided to give it some thought. So why am I still single?
Let’s get some facts out of the way, I am turning 26 in few weeks. My best friend is getting married in August, my closest friends are all in long term relationships, my friends abroad all have kids. I am Ukrainian and therefore raised with a belief – which I do cherish – that family comes before anything. I am happy in with my career and independent. I have been single for over a year and a half. So those are the main facts which all point to a reality that I should be in search for a prince charming!
As lovely as a concept as it may be, I am not searching. All perhaps to do with a past relationship ending on such a sour note that most divorces that I know of have ended with a better happily ever after. My break up was a mess, so can you blame me for taking time in wanting to get to know an individual prior to introducing them into my life? That’s the thing, I am happy with the way my life is now and I want to have an individual that will add to it rather than cause turmoil. Finding balance after being in a long term relationship is not easy but once it is found, you build walls with reinforcement that will keep that balance.
So why am I single? It also maybe be because most men that I’ve met are in their early or mid thirties and seem to still lead a life of a twenty year old. The only exception being that better income includes swankier parties, expensive suits and endless array of women.I am not stereotyping the group, I’m just saying that those have been my experiences. It appears that nowadays gentleman is a critically endangered species and relationship are the end of all ends and the good old fun days with the boys. As if we are all out to get them and make babies with is our sole goal in life. Naturally, not an appealing scenario to jump into and have a healthy relationship in.
So for any woman that’s single and is probably far too familiar with this question: why are you still single? Well, there’s no right answer but in fact, there is a very good reason for why we are single. More often it is either a choice or because you’ve simply not found a person you’re willing to commit yourself too.
With Love…
Marta
