Hello Darlings, Upon checking into my room and a quick soak, I was ready for a night on the town! With an itinerary filled with adventure, I was as excited as a little kid on a Christmas morning. The first event on the list was a meet and greet at Bartini in the lobby of W. Luckily, my closet friend and a colleague Miya joined me on this trip. She was covering the experience for TheYouthSociety.com — a women’s lifestyle site I co-found in 2014— and you can read all about it here. After a few martinis and making new friends, we set out to explore the town starting with an incredible dinner at Jatoba as recommended by our W Insider. If in Montreal, it’s a must try! Then the evening took us to Flyjin lounge in Old Montreal which proved to be lots of fun even on a random week day. It was a perfect girls night filled with great food, a few cocktails and many laughs!

Hello Darlings, The other day as my mom and I were both in a car and spotted an individual with a questionable outfit, or as my mom would say too fashionable. We went into a discussion of fashion over function. Which got me thinking how far out of our comfort do we go for fashion? In essence every part of our outfit carries a function but in today’s world how much emphasis do we give aesthetic over function.

Winter Sunglasses

In particular one story came into mind as I started to ponder this idea. On one autumn afternoon I was browsing the sunglasses selection of a department store and in the process a lady tried on a few pairs and concluded that winter sunglasses are pretensions. As it should come as no surprise, holding in my opinion takes practice and I blurted out, “actually they’re necessary.” She picked up a pair and walked away, while I continued my search for a replacement of my beloved Miu Miu sunnies that I drowned back in July during a jet ski accident in Key West. That story I will save for another day because it is a good one!

Hello Darlings, Looking back on the past 7 years that I’ve been writing WithLoveGabrielle.com, I can’t begin to fathom the idea how one decision led to this moment. Looking back on that evening at Robarts Library, as a 2nd year University of Toronto student I made a decision to write down my thoughts and publish them online. At the time it was such a foreign concept that I kept it a secret from family and friends for months. For my first article I wrote about Coco Chanel as it only seemed fitting that I start first with an individual who inspired this journey. Gabrielle is Chanel’s first name and therefore homage to an individual whose work ethic and determination I admire. That’s how WithLoveGabrielle.com came into existence!

Looking back on that time the digital landscape looked very different from today. In fact a blog was a rarely heard of and street style and social media were just starting to come into their own. It was a medium that offered me an escape at a time I needed it most. Pursuing my specialist diploma in architecture and art history was rigorous; I also held a part time job as an assistant to one of my professors. A professor who made me realize what I wanted from my life; to become a strong and independent woman with a rewarding career and a beautiful family life. In my eyes she seemed to have figured it out, and I admired from a distance for years.
