Hello Darlings, With this weekend being a long one, I’ve been spending much of my time at the Veld Music Festival or just catching up on reading and spending time with my family and friends. Which made me think — What makes us happy in life?!

One would think that it is not exactly a tricky question, but after much thought it turned out to be. In a moment of complete happiness we do not stop to think of why we feel that way, however when feeling down we wonder as to what can make us happy in that very instance. That’s when we turn to “cheap” tricks likes shopping :)

Over this weekend, I’ve come to realize that it is in the moments when I feel at ease and most content that I feel happiest. I’ve also realized that in order to slow down and enjoy those moments it takes effort and not little but in fact a lot. In life, it is natural to want more — better job, bigger place, more shoes longer vacation, etc. It’s this very rabbit hole that throws us off balance and in turn makes it difficult to enjoy moments. Constantly striving for more and pushing your limits without slowing down is exactly what causes us to burn out and become unhappy.

To enjoy a moment, you need to slow down and nowadays that’s a luxury. With all the hard work that we put into making our lives better, it would seem natural to want to appreciate the joy that comes out of it. However instead of slowing down, we chose to push ourselves more. As it turned out, it is exactly the very thing that we take for granted that makes us happy. Learning to appreciate being in the moment takes effort and it is one of life lessons that are worth learning. Such moments not only make us happy but bring out the best in us and therefore making it easier to enjoy everything in between.

I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend and if not there’s always a next one!

With Love…

Marta

Since following your blog several years ago I have loved every post you’ve done but this one has made me feel so happy! I see you as an attractive, educated, fun young women and I’ve admired your fast fun moving lifestyle and the things you get to do. I’m glad you have taken sometime to relax this weekend at this music festival. It has brought out some of your inner beauty, or as us older people say, happiness. But how do you make yourself happy? Is it money? Fame? Lots of friends? I look at these pictures and see you with a yummy Starbucks drink, and iPad and those adorable MJ flats. All stuff that you have to work for, but all stuff that makes you happy. Call it perspective or whatever but at the end of the day, happiness comes from within.

    Big hug.

I love your blog! I have to agree with Brian this blog especially put a smile on my face and told me a little bit more about the beautiful lady behind the sunnies :) On first glance you have looks and clothes to kill but now we see the a little more about you :) The down to earth and humble qualities. Please don’t get me wrong I bet they were always there. But I don’t know you personally so I am just commenting on what I read. PS. A Starbucks always makes me happy; being at the park with a book, Sitting in the sun or just driving to work, everything seems a little more exciting with my lovely coffee in hand. I enjoy the little things. :) Pss I also love love love your english bulldog! I have a frenchie and they are the best creatures! So much personality. Cheers and happy long weekend. XX- AG

This post speaks so much truth..
I’ve realised over the past couple of years how fast things has been going around me and I can’t even recall the last time I sat on the grass and just think.. I am always multitasking and doing something all at once.
Why is that? Why is it so hard to relax!!! even now.. I am supposedly “studying” and at the same time I am reading blog posts (well.. its hard not to) and listening to music.
There is one thing that I commit myself to doing without distraction and that is photography and I hope I never take that for granted :)
