Who’s the Bigger Star

Actors Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough made a special appearance at the Toronto preview screening for their new movie Safe Haven, which opens nationwide on Valentine’s Day. Reviews are universally positive, but there is another interesting thread to the story considering both actors are in relationships with arguably more famous spouses.

 

Josh Duhamel is in my opinion an excellent actor, but his wife Fergie is still arguably much more famous. And Julianne Hough - who’s fame stems from her role on Dancing With The Stars and then her relatively brief stint as a country then pop singer - is perhaps best known as the girlfriend of Hollywood mogul in the making Ryan Seacrest.

Between the two, the couple more intriguing is Julianne Hough and Ryan Seacrest. Sure Julianne is talented and pretty, but I am curious how much of her success is really due to the influence of Ryan Seacrest? Would Julianne have eventually made it this far without Ryan, or is he more than just a catalyst for her success?

 

As the lead in the movie Safe Haven, Julianne Hough may be making the nepotism issue moot. As with the movie, the reviews of her performance are universally positive. Julianne plays the heroine Katie Feldman, who is running away from a troubled past and falls in love with a new man (Duhamel) in a picturesque small southern town. But what is more assuring that Julianne is deserving of being cast as the lead is how she presented herself in the post screening interview for the large audience, where she was confident, well-spoken, charming, and charismatic.

So even if her much older boyfriend - Ryan Seacrest is 38 and Julianne Hough is 24 - deserves much of the credit for coaching her success, the results are resoundingly positive! In my experience, school doesn’t prepare you for the real world challenges of interacting with people and creating opportunities (such as what I experienced hosting the Kate Spade New York launch party). So good for Julianne for finding a partner like Ryan, who has likely helped her enormously since their relationship started two years ago!

 

And I think most important is, good for Julianne for converting whatever assistance that she receives from Ryan into positives. After all, one of the best reasons to be in a relationship is having the full support of your man (and best friend). I am just curious after Safe Haven turns out to be a hit (which is inevitable) who’s going to be the bigger star in each of these unique celebrity couples!
