For the past year or so, I have been watching Slice TV’s show, Princess. Hosted by Gail Vaz-Oxlade, the series sets out to inspire women to make good financial decisions by profiling spoiled spendthrifts, and encourage them to grow up and get real.

The most recent episode inspired this article, in which a 22 year old blonde with extensions, fake tan, french manicure, and designer clothes lives according to the premise that it is a man’s job to pay. In her words, “he should get into his pocket, take out lots of cash, and just keep me happy.” It is of course every man’s dream to find a woman who will sit on her behind baking cookies and birthing kids with absolutely no career or aspirations to achieve any success on her own. Next thing you know, she is out on her broke behind with nothing but her entitlement.

I am sure every girl can relate to the drama that just when you thought everything was organized and going according to the plan, things get de-railed.

As I packed my suitcase for a week-long hotel stay during Toronto Fashion Week, I thought I had it all figured out! My outfits were colour-coded and organized with all my shoes pre-selected, and for every outfit there was a stand-by. But two days in, my super keen plan was failing me. Nothing suited my mood. I did not want to wear dresses and pretty blouses, I just wanted cashmere and jeans.

Sunday brunch has always been one of my favourite social gatherings. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, the comfort of morning sunshine and of course a table with some of my favourite people are just a few of the reasons. Many broken hearts have been mended over mimosas and much advice has been given, and even more relationship advice has been received over pancakes or French toast (my favourite!). The tradition of brunching with my girlies or loved ones has been around for a while and even as our lives take us in different directions, there’s always time for a catch-up brunch!
