Perfect Fit: Finding Denim Shorts

Hello Darlings,

As a warm weather staple, denim cut offs are one of those items that are a good idea for every girls wardrobe. Regardless of your personal style, most every style guru says they are key to the laid back all-American look - especially when paired with a pair of Converse sneakers. Denim cut offs are the equivalent of a floral dress for the trendy and hip. With every glossy’s summer issue shouting this statement, my closet was starting to look like quite the social outcast. Speak of fashion pressure!

I am not keen on ripped up and scandalously short cut offs. In part for subconscious reasons, and in part because I feel they are more appropriate for teens. Nonetheless, jeans are just too hot to wear on most mid-summer days. So I took up the mission to find a pair of denim shorts that were neither too tiny, too tight, nor too distressed. My mission turned out to be a bit of a nightmare, as most of the options were overly cheeky

From floral minis, to graphic boy shorts, to capri-pants and at one point even to hot pants, I tried on all types of denim shorts. Eventually, I came across a pair of MiH Marrakesh Shorts for Shopbop (now on sale for $56, from $187). The shorts sit higher on the waist and have a longer inseam with cute stitching at the waist. I decided to take a chance!

Knowing that MiH runs a size smaller, sizing up was a right choice as the shorts fit perfect.The search was worth the time as I love wearing them for a casual day out.

Denim shorts are meant for everyone, especially not the tiny traditional Daisy Duke’s. I do however think that every woman can find a pair that suits her style. I must add that wearing denim cut off should come with a warning stating that heels are off limits. Seeing women wear skyscraper stilettos with denim short-shorts is a bit much. Silk or dress shorts are perfect with a pair of sexy strap-y sandals or cute espadrilles, but denim cut offs should be worn with flats.
