Spring Summer Trends: Tops

On March 17, 2009 · 12 Comments
Hello Darlings,

Here's my second part on Spring Summer Trends for 2009. This time is all about tops: blouses, shirts, tees, tanks... as were seen on the runways of some of my favorite designers.

Roberto Cavalli; Giambattista Valli; Fendi; YSL; Jean Paul Gaultier

Sheer

I love this trend, especially for classic blouses. Sheer fabrics take on chic sophistication when decorated with a delicate print. I will definitely try this trend. It is perfect for layering or revealing as much as you dare.
Tip: Underneath a sheer blouse should be a pretty, well-fitting bra or a beautiful silk camisole.

Dolce & Gabbana; Lanvin; Emporio Armani; Balmain

Exaggerated Shoulders

This grandiose silhouette is a fresh angle for any ensemble - definitely a statement piece. I may not feel comfortable using this trend, but there's always that one piece that could work for you.
Tip: This trend could work beautifully as long as it is in proportion to your body. The choice is yours as to how extreme you would like to go :)
John Galliano; Matthew Williamson; Nina Ricci

Prints

Abstract shapes, painted brushstrokes, and floral touches - this season is pretty graphical. Have fun playing with prints. As for me, I've never been a print person but will try this season, with small prints proportional to my body.

Proenza Schouler, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander Wang

Bare Midriff

Confidence is a must to pull off this trend... young, fresh, sexy and perfect for hot summer days/nights.
I am willing to try, pairing with breezy pants so I am not too revealing. For a beach... well that's a different story. This is a fun trend for summer, but one that could be overdone to a degree that is offensive (too much skin). Use with caution...
Herve Leger; Lanvin

One Shoulder

The evening wear trend this season. Try this in a relaxed and romantic fit with new colors (ex. nudes). Lanvin explored this trend in variety of silhouettes - incredible collection, definitely one of my favorites. I adore this trend and have been wearing it for a while... It is sexy in subtle way. Try it.

Nina Ricci; Christian Lacroix; Giambattista Valli; Marc by Marc Jacobs; Matthew Williamson

Ruffles

Ruffles can be a big no no when overdone. If done in a tasteful manner they are charming and feminine. I am definitely going for this trend...only because I've always loved ruffles, especially when paired with masculine pieces.

What is your favorite Spring/ Summer trend for tops?

With Love... Marta

Romeo and Juliet + Dinner Party Fun…

On March 14, 2009 · 19 Comments
Hello Darlings,

I love this simple Maggie Ward dress with a tint of sparkle. It is comfortable and goes with anything. Tonight I wore it with my Mackage leather jacket. Never thought a leather jacket would work for me but it gave character to my outfit - and made me feel like a " bad ass".

Tonight's soiree was a dinner party at a restaurant followed by Romeo and Juliet Ballet. If you live in Toronto, the performance is incredible. Visual and emotionally charged - you won't be able to take your eyes off the stage. I am still overwhelmed how wonderful it was :)

As for my outfit, well I went for simple...with a touch of sparkle :)

I am wearing:
Maggie Ward Dress
Mackage Leather Jacket
Club Monaco Cashmere Scarf
A.V. Max Gold Studded Cuff
CK Tights
Coach Patent Leather Wristlet
Ruthie Davis " Screen" Heels with Swarovski Crystals

I wore my Ruthie Davis "screen" heels with Swarovski crystals. These shoes make me feel like a princess and to match the patent leather of the shoe, I wore patent leather Coach wristlet. I really love how the Swarovski crystals on the heels complement the sparkle of the dress and the patents leather adds a bit a little something to the entire outfit.

I wore my all time favorite shoes by Ruthie Davis. These shoes always make me feel like a princess and to match the patent leather of the shoe, I wore patent leather Coach wristlet. I really love how the Swarovski crystals on the heels go perfectly with the sparkle of the dress and the patents leather adds a bit a little something to the entire outfit. I kept everything else, including hair and make up, fairly simple.... just the way I like it, simple with beautiful details :)
Tomorrow's plan is to visit the Art Gallery of Ontario for my art critique assignment. I am really excited, because the gallery was just renovated by Frank Gehry - so I can't wait to see building as well. I will try to take some pictures .
I wish you all a lovely and fun weekend :)

Romeo and Juliet in Ruthie Davis

Hello Darlings,

Today, was yet another dinner party at a restaurant followed by Romeo and Juliet Ballet. The performance is incredible: very visual and emotionally packed. I am still overwhelmed as to how wonderful it was :)

As for my outfit, well I went for a simple look with a touch of sparkle. I wore a Maggie Ward dress, that goes with everything and anything, together with my Ruthie Davis Mary Jane's.

It was a chilly evening, so I wore my Mackage leather jacket. I never thought that a leather jacket would work for me but I finally understand why there's so much hype around leather jackets - they give character to the most boring outfit and of course, makes you feel like a " bad ass" ( lol).

I am wearing:
Maggie Ward Dress
Mackage Leather Jacket
Club Monaco Cashmere Scarf
A.V. Max Gold Studded Cuff
CK Tights
Coach Patent Leather Wristlet
Ruthie Davis " Screen" Heels with Swarovski Crystals
As for the details of my outfit: I wore my Ruthie Davis shoes that always make me feel like a princess and to match the patent leather of the shoe, I wore patent leather Coach wristlet. I really love how the Swarovski crystals on the heels complement the sparkle of the dress. I kept everything else, including hair and make up, simple with beautiful details :)
Tomorrows plan is to spend sometime in Art Gallery of Ontario for my art critique assignment...I am really excited to go, because the gallery was just re-do my Frank Gehry- so I can't wait to see that he did with it. I will try to take some pictures .
I wish you all a lovely and fun weekend :)

Revolve Clothing = a big NO NO!!!

On March 10, 2009 · 45 Comments
Hello Darlings,

For a long time, I've adored Revolve Clothing especially for their variety. Well, that love affair ended this month. Their slow shipping has always bothered me, but this month things got so much worse as every order was screwed up.

I thought to share my experience since I have recommended this site, but I don't anymore. That's right, I am "breaking up" with Revolve Clothing.

Dittos Skinny Suzie in Black - 224.91 (CAD), on sale for $146 (CAD)

Exhibit One

I ordered Dittos Skinny Suzie jeans. They arrived today - 3 weeks later - and what a nightmare! I ordered size 24, but the jeans are way too big. Their size chart stated the waist is 24" but they are at least 27". So I contacted customer service to pay for my return because they provided inaccurate sizing details... and Revolve said the size chart is only a reference... and won't refund my return fee. IMO, if you order online - the size chart is like a Bible, you base your decision on it. Revolve Clothing thinks otherwise....

Pour La Victoire Murielle in White - 271.71 ( CAD), on sale for 109.20 (CAD)

Exhibit Two

I found and love this pair (perfect for summer) plus they were 50% off.. After three days waiting for them to be shipped, Revolve e-mailed stating they can't find them.... They found them a WEEK LATER. And now, it's been a week since they shipped out and still no shoes...

Bloch Luxury Ballet Flat in White - $193 (CAD)
Bold

Exhibit Three

I've been obsessed with these adorable Bloch flats and decided to buy them but guess what - REVOLVE CAN'T FIND THEM EITHER.... If I knew this would happen, I would have ordered from Net-a-Porter or Brantano. What happened to Revolve? Instead of doing their best to stay on top during the recession, they do the opposite. ADVICE TO REVOLVE EXECS: Hire new staff who know the meaning of polite, and get organized. I don't care that you're re-organizing your warehouse ... yup, that 's the excuse they gave me!

How would you handle this situation?

Where to shop on line? What are your favorite sites?

With Love...
