The Thrill of Life: Staying Curious
Hello Darlings, The jolt of energy and excitement that rushes through our body when we experience the unknown. It's exhilarating to feel that alive in a split second. Every part within our body is alert, while the heart is pumping and the mind is racing. Everything within that one moment of pure excitement propels us to an extreme state of happiness and what would we not give to prolong that feeling. Or experience it over and over again.
In the past few years I've come to realize that curiosity singularly leads my life. What would I not do or try to experience that natural high. I am not speaking of sky diving or cliff climbing, I am talking about staying curious. The constant hunger for novelty is exhausting but in the most positive way. The hunt itself is exhilarating and the destination is euphoric. Now, allow me to explain what I mean in practical rather than romantic terms.
A few years ago while working at Sotheby's auction house I've come to realize that my love for art was not solely defined by appreciation of another individual's talent but by constant newness. My daily life was filled with beauty and variety, every work of art had its story and every artist was fascinating. That newness kept me interested for a long time. Despite not staying in the arts sphere but instead choosing to pave my own path into the unknown which has lead me to this point. I live for the thrill of learning or experiencing something new.
While I am not ready to set out on a year adventure to explore the world, I stay curious in a way that allows my everyday life to run its course. From finding an exciting new book that proves to be as amazing as the reviews stated gives me that satisfaction. Seeing a new musical, ballet show or concert gives that excitement for having experienced others talent. An engaging conversation that allows me to learn something new about myself or the individual brings the greatest joy. Even in gym mastering squats left me ecstatic.
From dedicating your attention to brewing a perfect cup of tea, to spending an hour extra solving a problem at work — it is that curiosity that keeps our everyday lives exciting. Rather than hoping for a drastic adventure into the unknown introduce curiosity into your everyday life, I promise you will be amazed at how different the world will begin to seem. At times it is difficult to want to stay curious because it takes effort, it takes conscious effort to get up and get out. Given the benefits that we reap not only just by keeping ourselves interested but by being interested in others, it is worth the time spent. Consider not just how much value you'll add to your own development but to others. By being interesting, other stay interested in you — you add something to another's life. If that's now good enough of a reason to take that photography class that you've always wanted then I do not know what is. Stay curious and life will become your playground and a wonder!
With Love...
