Orange is the New Black: Breaking the Redhead Rules

Hello Darlings,

It might have been the after-glow of the spring 2011 colour boom, or maybe I was just bored of wearing neutrals. Whatever the reason, I just want colour, and orange in particular. Not only have I purchased a bright orange coat, but also an orange purse! My closet no longer looks as if it belongs in a black and white photo album, but rather reflects that of a circus dressing room. With sequins, glitter, feathers, fur, lace, greens, oranges, golds, reds and velvet—it has all become a parade of the anti-conservative.

As I pranced around in front of a gigantic Coach mirror with a purse that is as bright as my freshly glossed hair, I was in search for my next "it" bag. One that of course would comfortably fit my teeny laptop and a DSL camera. It is no easy task, I assure you. Nonetheless, I decided on a beautiful and super-orange Coach Madison Leather Lindsey Satchel. Its classic shape, soft but tough texture, no tacky labels, and shoulder-strap/handles create a combination that was practical and chic.

Although I was breaking the first commandment of redheads—one should not wear orange or red— I just didn't care. I was too consumed with my love for the pumpkin colour! In fact, I must admit that I really love the combination of black and orange and how wonderfully my hair colour clashes with it all.

I am wearing:
 Zara Wool Double-Breasted Coat
♥ 7 For All Mankind The Skinny Jeans
 Coach Cheyenne Over-the-Knee Boots
 Coach Madison Leather Lindsey Satchel
BCBG Max Azria Wool Floppy Hat
♥ Michael Kors Watch

As far as purchases go,  in that one shopping trip I made a purchase of three items—orange coat, orange purse and a large floppy hat— that not only challenged my personal style but also pushed me in a new direction. It's quite exciting not knowing what will appeal to me next, because I did not expect to walk away with such a colour infatuation this past Sunday.

Is orange the new black? For the time being, to me it is!

With Love...

Marta
