New York Fashion Week Planning: Anxiety of Choice

Hello Darlings, Pre-Fall 2012 collections are released and it is just weeks before the fashion elites embark on their journey around the world. In a span of two months, their stilettos will strut into the tents of New York, Milan, London and Paris in search of the most coveted fashions for F/W’12. As they report the trends in the glossy pages of our favorite Sunday reads, we girls will be creating our own to-buy lists.

New York fashion week is the first of the four big events in the world’s fashion capitals. New York offers a first glimpse into the season’s trend. With the likes of Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Diane Von Furstenberg, it is the world of magic and mayhem. In my mind, it’s like a beautiful zoo where everyone feels a bit out of place. How can anyone possibly feel as if they are in their natural habitat? And if so, who are these people?  :D

As I prepare for my first New York fashion week experience, I cannot help but feel very excited and a bit anxious. We are speaking of big leagues here, where the whole world is watching. The thought of being in such close proximity to Marc Jacobs makes my heart drop down to my ankles.

I AM WEARING: Marc by Marc Jacobs Hayworth Fur Vest // Club Monaco Jasmine Cashmere Sweater // BCBG Max Azria Suui Pointelle Skirt // Fogal Lobby Pantyhose // Manolo Blahnik Booties // Coach Madison Leather Lindsay Satchel

With hotel and flights to book, photography equipment to purchase and credentials to finalize: the to-do list is not getting any smaller. All of this and I have not even gone into the wardrobe territory.  What to bring? What to buy?...

A wardrobe for an entire week! How is that womanly possible? Expecting a woman to decide on that many outfits is cruel, plus what happened to choice? Doesn’t every woman deserve a backup? You know that stand-by outfit in case the go-to outfit fails you. And if there are 7 go-to outfits then there should be at least 5 standbys. My math might not be perfect but I am sure that the shoes alone would exceed most airlines baggage limit. What’s a girl to do?

Naturally, take up the discussion with the nearest and dearest: girlfriends. Discuss I did, over a cocktail or two on Monday evening. My discussion didn’t quite reach its anticipated destination but swirled off course to a territory far more dangerous: men. Shoes, men and packing—so many decisions to make in so little time! But then again, c’est la vie...

With Love...
