For the past few years, I’ve had the pleasure of attending the motionball Gala in support of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

The gala was founded by three best friends, who also happen to be brothers. Mark, Sean and Paul Etherington have been involved with Special Olympics Canada since childhood, when they volunteered at fundraising events organized by their parents, whom are the co-founders of the Sports Celebrities Festival—a festival that has raised an impressive sum of over $25 million for Special Olympics Canada since 1983.

Following in their parents footsteps, the brothers have raised over $11 million (net) for the cause since the gala’s founding in 2002.

Noticing a lack of integration between supporters and the athletes being supported, the brothers felt the desire to bridge this gap, to build friendships between donors and recipients, by getting the younger generation involved in giving back in a different way, a way that would truly enrich the lives of both parties. Throughout the course of the motionball calendar year, over 6,000 supporters and Special Olympics athletes participate in 32 annual events in 20 Canadian cities. You can participate yourself at the events taking place this year at the following link.

The evening is always a highlight of February for me and a wonderful night to spend with friends. This year, like all others before it, the fun did not fail.  Despite it being a cold winter evening, I chose to wear a light colour for the occasion—a blush dress by one of my go-to brands Cinq à Sept and a matching wrap coat. It was out of character for me not to wear black, but I felt this was the perfect choice for such an inspiring evening. My feet hurt for two days from all the dancing we did that night, but it was well worth it. I’m looking forward to 2020.

With Love…
