Floral Prints and How to Wear Them

Hello Darlings, With spring come flowers, and this season there are loads of them.  The floral print is not about to wilt anytime soon.  Although a classic warm weather staple, floral prints are often seen as frumpy when worn in excessive amounts. Well, not this season. The more in bloom you are, the better!

As seen on the runways of Matthew Williamson, Erdem, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som and many more; the head-to-toe floral trend was one of the biggest S/S 2012 runway trends. Typically, not a fan floral, this season I fell in love with the modern print that is not only wearable but also flattering. This season floral arrangements carry more sophistication and modernity. Without the fuss and muss of the the overly girl trend, even the hippest of urban girls can sport this trend without feeling like a hussy. Below are some of my favorite floral runway looks that do the floral look justice:

To say that floral is the trend this season is unfair, as it is a warm weather classic that is re-invented every season. However, something unique for this season the floral trend is in denim. I find the combination to be charming and yet modern and could not wait to hop on the bandwagon by picking up my own pair of soft and very comfortable J Brand floral skinnies.

With my color-phobia and floral-intimidation, the gray toned pair of rose printed jeans was a perfect fit. The color is muted while the print is bold, plus the neutral color makes it easy to wear. As opposed to going hard-core on certain trends, I settle on something more soft-core that is not only perfect for every day but also makes me feel comfortable. After all, there is no point to push the envelop when you do not feel confident in your own skin.

As for wearing the look, fashion designer Bradley Bayou suggests picking "a floral print that matches the scale of your frame. If you're petite, choose a small, delicate floral pattern in lieu of a large print, and vice versa." Also be sure to wear the print strategically and to your advantage as "it is a focal point of an outfit and will draw attention to wherever you place it, so let it show off your best assets."

As for the outfit that I wore to Swarovski Kingdom of Jewels Event, I decided to stay neutral by pairing a silk Talula Babaton Sabrina black and white blouse with a pair of Manolo Blahnik booties and a dusty pink Coach Madison Lindsey satchel.

What do you think of floral denim?

With Love...

Marta
