Backstage at Tommy Hilfiger F/W 2014
Hello Darlings, As February marks the beginning of worldwide fashion weeks, I made my way to New York for Tommy Hilfiger festivities and prior to that for some much needed down time. On a snowy Monday morning I hoped into a cab to Park Avenue Armory arriving just 5 minutes to 10. As I made my way into the historic building and checked in at the media center, I was quickly taken backstage to see the action live. What a thrill it was!
Along with 40 of other international media, we had the opportunity to mingle backstage with some of the fresh faced beauties while Pat McGrath ensured that every girl looked perfect. The girls were then quickly rushed into the change room at the back for a run through prior to the final show. Before the attendees began to arrive, we were shown the elaborate set that transported us to Colorado slopes rather than New York city. With snowy slopes and a cabin, we were in for a treat.
The entire morning the vibe was very relaxed without the typical hassle and madness that comes with a runways show. At Tommy, everyone was just hanging out while last minute details were gently handled without causing much of a scene. As the girls snacked on fruit and veggies, the last minute touches were added to the runway and the seating charts were checked over. The atmosphere came to me as a surprise as I was prepared for a battle field instead it was all a smooth sailing. About 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time, Tommy arrived and made his way to the backstage and by 11:30 the show was under way. The execution was flawless.
As the slender beauties made their way down the runway, the theme for this fall and winter season was clear — American Explorer. The entire setting and collection was inspired by the great outdoors and infused with a luxe reinterpretation for today's adventurous young women. Everything about the collection was young and hip but with classic Tommy touches such as variety of tartans and circle skirts. The show was an absolute feast for the eye! From the fun collection, to the production and the atmosphere — the entire experience was a spectacle. The elaborate set it made it feel special and more like a theatrical performance than a typical fashion show.
I had the pleasure of sitting across from Anna Wintour which in itself made for a fascinating experience as to my surprise she was at ease and pleasant to the press. At the end of the show, she even flashed a warm smile which definitely sealed a fact that the show was received well. At the end of the exciting day, Tommy Hilfiger hosted an intimate dinner at Toro restaurant in Chelsey in the evening. To say that the experience was special would be an understatement, it was an absolute pleasure and a memory that will never be replaced. After all having such a lovely introduction to New York Fashion Week is definitely a dream come true.
