Aritzia Wilfred Dress
Hello Darlings,There's a reason why they say to never judge a book by its cover but nonetheless we always do! On a random Thursday evening, my best friend and I browsed the new arrivals rack at Aritzia. For years the Canadian retailer has been my go-to for stylish basics and neutral additions. There's something easy and effortless about all of their pieces. They come with no hassle, just a beautiful fit. While browsing I spotted a piece that not only looked terrible on a hanger but I also wasn't quite sure as to what it was — maybe a dress, maybe a shirt or even a tunic!?
Out of curiosity I decided to try on this mystery piece; formally known as Wilfred Free Solange Dress.Fast forward a few weeks and it's become my favorite. In fact, I absolutely love the entire Wilfred Free line for its comfort and softness of materials. That's the thing, you just never know how something might fit off the hanger. I must say, some items are meant to be outfitted on a mannequin otherwise it is lots in translation. On the hanger the dress was turned in so that half of it was tucked while the rest was inside-out. The hanger did not do any justice to the dress. Lesson of the week, it is best to try things on than wonder! When paired with my treasured Alexander Wang boots and a Vince coat, the outfit was perfect for a cocktail hour with the girls.
The moral of the story — never jump to conclusions and try to be open minded. You may surprise yourself! Lets not narrow this example to just retail but to our everyday life. Go beyond your comfort zone and try something that piques your curiosity. Nothing great ever comes from comfort. Comfort zones are just that, comfortable. Don't judge a book by its cover but instead read the middle chapter. Don't hesitate trying a new meal because it is unfamiliar. Don't be afraid to try a skirt with that awkward length. Don't be afraid to give your number to a new guy. Don't be afraid to ask for a promotion. Don't be afraid to ____ (fill in the blank).
Girl, just go for it! You'll be surprised as to how much you'll learn about yourself just by stepping outside the comfort zone and by not jumping to conclusions. This year's been the most challenging yet and exciting, promise to share some of my discoveries in the next few articles.
With Love...
