An Unexpected Week in Fashion

Hello Darlings,

This week has been filled with exciting and disappointing fashion reports. But that's the thing about fashion, you never know what to expect.

For the past seven months, the fashion insiders have been speculating as to who will fill Galliano's spot at Dior. As most of you have heard, the house of Christian Dior fired John Galliano in March 2011 after his anti-Semitic remarks were caught on camera and went viral. Ever since, it has been a guessing game with Marc Jacobs being the favourite of gossipers. On Monday, Christian Dior made an unexpected announcement stating that their new artistic director is Belgian designer, Raf Simmons.

Raf Simmons, known for his charming and minimalistic designs at Jil Sander, was not a very predictable choice for a fashion house recognized for its lavish and glamorous designs.Simmons will present his first collection for Dior in July at haute couture week.I am very interested to see in which direction he will take Dior.

The second news to hit the fashion circuit was the cancellation of the legendary Fashion Television. An announcement that blind-sided many of fashion insiders and started a number of on-line protests. The news was first announced by the show's host of twenty-seven years, Jeanne Beker, on Twitter and later confirmed by CTV. According to reports, the cancellation is due to competition and on-line rivals. I’ve watched the Fashion Television religiously for as long as I can remember and pretty disappointed at the turn of events. It will be interesting to see as to what Jeanne Beker will do next.
