W Scottsdale: Perfect Girls Getaway

Hello Darlings, At the first sight of snow the suitcases were packed and we were on our merry way seeking sunshine. After a direct 5 hour flight with WestJet we landed in Phoenix airport where the sun was shinning and the car was awaiting for us. After a 15 minute drive, we were at the beautiful W Scottsdale— our home for the next 4 days. With a vibrant art scene, fabulous golf courses and magnificent resorts Scottsdale was described by New York Times as a "desert version of Miami's South Beach." And rightfully so! It is no wonder that within the past few years, Scottsdale has become the "it" destination that offers refinement that Vegas doesn't and quaint alternative to South Beach. In the four days that we were there it quickly became a favorite!

While originally expecting calm and quite —  the city took us by surprise! The "new" Scottsdale now competes with Palm Springs, Las Vegas and South Beach and what do they all have in common? Fun — endless supply of parties, lounges and clubs. Culturally it is also a hub for arts and great architecture especially that influenced directly by  Frank Lloyd Wright. So while a horse ranch and endless stretches of dessert are never too far, in the midst of it all is a bustling urban oasis that not only knows how to spoil but entertain. If you're looking for horse back riding, followed by Moët & Chandon and swanky parties and delicious restaurants then you've found your new destination. To say that it's unique would be an understatement and to admit that I haven't been charmed would be a lie.

For our girls trip we were spoiled by W Scottsdale at the phenomenal 2 bedroom WOW Suite - watch the tour above! Part of 6 custom suits which were crafted by by renowned luxury designer Theresa Fatino and located at  a new private wing on the 6th floor of the hotel. With stunning views of downtown Scottsdale and Camelback Mountain, this home away from home was incredibly hard to leave. Our 1,400 square foot, two bedroom suite features a separate living room, kitchen and en-suite laundry unit, and large balcony. Each master bedroom has its own walk-in closet and a huge bathroom! Both of us enjoyed having the privacy while keeping the living room area for fun where we even enjoyed a late night of board games that were kindly provided by W Insider.

That's the thing about W Hotels — the Whatever/Whenever promise stands true. While at the hotel, the W Insiders generously recommended us activities and restaurants, even going as far as walking us over to nightclubs to ensure that our experience is exceptional. Among all of the places we enjoyed Sushi Roku was by far our favorite restaurant while the Living Room was the starting point of every evening. We also really loved Mexican at The Mission and Asian fusion at SumoMaya — would strongly recommend all three restaurants. As for nightlife, well it's all just literally outside the door.  The best plan of action is to speak with the W Insider as every night has its hot spot and to ensure that they can organize your visit comfortably.

During the day, we had the pleasure of hanging out at WET pool or in our room. On one of that days we decided to venture out 30 minutes into the desert to  enjoy a horseback riding adventure out at Macdonal's Ranch. This has to be one of my favorite memories from the trip as we not only had the pleasure to ride our horses into the sunset but truly enjoy the peace and beauty of the desert and surrounding mountains for a few hours. One the way back, ask your driver to stop by In-N-Out Burger for a true experience!

The only regret  due to our short stay is that we  did not get a chance to experience Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home — Taliesin West — which taking me back to my architecture classes was a desert masterpiece. We also did not get the chance to climb the Camelback Mountain which for two very good reasons another trip is bound to happen come spring.

What can I say, South Beach has some competition on my agenda as Scottsdale is definitely among my favorite sunny destinations for winter retreat. Plus, it's a perfect girls trip due to its sheer selection of great shopping! But that can also be found right outside the door of W. So exploring the area around the hotel is what it takes to truly experience what this wonderful city has to offer in just one weekend. As for an extended stay, well you're a lucky duck and I'm sure that  W Insider have plenty of ideas to keep you busy.
