Wearing Coloured Denim

Hello Darlings, Nothing says spring time quite like floral prints and pastels. I mean after the dreadful winter that we’ve faced and still continue to on odd days when the snow sprinkles over the city, wearing anything that unites us to warmth is pure joy. Just consider that amazing feeling of walking into your closet and pulling out a pair of pastel jeans and flats. I’m sorry but to me right now that is the second greatest feeling after that of having a cup of coffee in the morning. So yes, I may have to admit that this winter has got me really annoyed but just the thought of finally having the chance to transition into spring has me feeling overly excited.

So amongst all the wonderful warm weather options, is a fresh take on a wardrobe must have: jeans! As I’ve said before and will continue to, jeans in many aspects of life have become a substitute for a little black dress. Dressing them up or down has in itself become an art form, plus the comfort behind it really does seal the deal.

As much as every woman needs to have the denim basics of few variations such as dark wash denim in skinny, boyfriend or boot cut fits; there is also so much room to add a splash of color or print into the mix. What’s a better time to try something new if not in spring time?

Of course the girly girl in me at times likes to shine her colours, and fell in love with a pair of pearl pink ankle jeans from the new Reitmans #DenimLoveStories collection. The colour was just delicate enough for me to feel comfortable with it. Typically, I am not the one to introduce colour into my array as it tends to intimidate me. I’d rather try a different type of denim cut than add colour, but with subtle print or color it is that much easier for a woman with a fear of colour to try something new. Plus the delicate wash of the jeans was just perfect for summer and spring and could easily be worn with neutrals.

Essentially what I chose to do was go with a subtle colour of jeans and stay with a feminine feel by adding a top featuring delicate diamante and pink embroidery. To tone down the embellishment and pink colour of the denim, I went with a muted grey cardi which is perfect for chillier evenings. Both my jeans and cardi are from the Reitmans petites collection. I found that the petite fit better and flatters my small frame and I absolutely love having the option. While I would say that this look is definitely stepping outside of my comfort zone, it is still very much on point with my personal style. A girl’s just got to push her boundaries sometimes and what’s a better time to do if not with a new season?

With Love...

Marta
