Reitmans Denim Fit

Hello Darlings, The denim love story is no unlike other. There isn't single item in your wardrobe that requires as much thought and consideration as purchasing a pair of jeans. Every woman knows that finding that perfect fit is like falling in love. When all elements align, that's when you find the perfect one. You may think I may be dramatic in saying so, but every woman can relate to the struggle of finding that perfect pant that just highlights the best of her figure.

This may be because a pair of jeans in our time has essentially become a substitute to a little black dress. So what does it take to find a pair that hugs your curves just right? Well, it all comes down to understanding the fit and your body shape.

No woman is the same, and therefore different denim styles fit variety body shapes in a different manner. Understanding your body shape essentially will eliminate the fits that are not the best choice. Of course there is an exception to every rule, as it is possible to find every denim style that will suit any body but that takes time to narrow down just to the perfect one. However if you want an easy solution of what to look for, consider the following:

  • Pear shaped ladies with their tiny waist but proportionally slightly wider hips, thighs and bums are best matched with a classic bootcut fit to balance the body and a darker wash to elongate the legs.

  • Carrot shaped ladies who are wider in the shoulders or bust while small at the bottom benefit from wearing lighter colored denim as it balances the body while the slight bootcut denim looks best to create balance.

  • Hourglass figured ladies with proportionate top and bottom with a slim waist look best in a straight leg denim in a dark wash especially with a pair of heels. As the cut highlights the small waist while hugging and accentuating the curves.

  • Boyish shaped ladies where the waist is not as defined as in an hourglass figure look best in skinny and boyfriend fits. In skinny jeans look for bum pockets to draw attention to the posterior while in boyfriend jeans the looser fit gives volume around the thigh creating an illusion of a smaller waist.

As for myself I was on a mission to find two pairs of light colored jeans to wear in the spring and summer. That's the thing about light denim is that when the wash and fit are not right it can add pounds and no woman wants that.

I stopped by Reitmans to try on their new #DenimLoveStories was surprised as to the awesome selection. Specifically I was really glad to find that many of the styles came in tall, curvy and petite sizing. I have a hard time finding denim that fits me well in the waist and bum and what I discovered was that their skinny jeans did the trick perfectly. Also the length was ideal as with skinny jeans you don't want to have it bunch at your ankles and making you look stubbier. A clean lean line was perfect and the denim itself was very soft.To complete my look I went  for Canadian tuxedo and loved the polka dot denim shirt, topped with a feminine pink jacket.

With jeans, just remember that they should be accentuating the curves rather than deter from them.

With Love...

Marta
