LG Fashion Week Done and Over: Cat-Fights Galore

Hello Darlings,

With flashy designer labels and a non-stop flow of champagne at the VIP lounge, the biggest downside were the fights over front row seating. The majority of the action took place in the Runway or the Studio rooms. The Runway room, seating over 700 guests and featuring a 90-foot catwalk, was the ideal setting for the biggest Canadian fashion houses to show their spring/summer 2012 collections. Also, new up-and-comers were displaying their collections in a more intimate setting in the Studio, which seats about 350 people. Despite the large seating capacity, space was never enough.

During each Fashion Week it is always a parade of fashion bureaucracy rather than designer democracy.  The guests were creating more buzz about seating charts than the actual collections. With Iphone or Blackberry ubiquitous, every diva took an opportunity to bash one thing or another through their social media. Regardless of the seating soap opera, even the most patient of the crowd were disappointed with the wait times.

With organizational hiccups here and there, the season of spring/summer 2012 brought out the best in domestic design. With Canadian heavyweights such as Joe Fresh, Pink Tartan, Denis Gagnon, and David Dixon pulling out all the stops this season was filled with vibrant colors, beautiful peplums, flowing dresses, structures suits, and of naturally florals.

This season also welcomed Canadian raised yet New York based designer Lauren Bagliore. A graduate of the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in  New York, Bagliore gained experience in the world’s most renowned fashion houses including Vivienne Westwood, Tod’s and Zac Posen. This season she brought out the best in female silhouette with simple and clean lines in black, white and grey notes. Her collection being one of my favourite at LG Fashion Week.

Amongst the favourite was also the collection of David Dixon. As one of Canada's most recognized and established names, David Dixon never disappointed with his parley of evening dresses and cocktail look. Always refined and feminine, his work is perfectly made out for women of all ages and sized. Lauren's and David's collections were some of the last on the runway—shown on Friday evening— but never-the-less they were the ones to make a lasting impression. Unfortunately, enough I missed the closing show of Denis Gagnon.

Canada Cool does not typically set seasonal trends, however it does highlight the best of trends and translates them into everyday life. We might not be the trendiest of the bunch but we are definitely the coolest
