Hello Darlings, With record summer temperatures, the daily routine of dressing is more challenging considering frizz control, saving melting make-up, worrying about pedis, and choosing a perfect outfit for a super hot day! Wearing as little as possible is an obvious solution but not necessarily a practical one. Here are some of my tips and tricks for braving a heat wave and staying chic!

Silk is the way to go!  The fabric is light and breezy and of course, comes in a variety of styles. From shorts, dresses, blouses, tanks and skirts – silk can be a life saver on a hot day :)

Then again with every positive there can be a negative, and silk can be difficult to maintain. Since my closet contains about sixty garments made of silk, I’ve perfected the washing routine. I never use dry cleaners, instead wash my silks in cold water on delicate cycle and hang or lay flat to dry. Afterwards, iron the garment on a low setting. Voila!

For those who love their pants or jeans, try linen pants or perhaps a pair of jean shorts. Both are more comfortable to wear in high heat. Silk shorts or maxi skirts are also great options. Personally, I prefer silk bottoms as linen wrinkles  easily. However I am on a hunt for a pair of linen wide leg trousers, oh how perfect they would look with a breton stripe top?!

All white crisp outfits are also oh-so summer perfect, with one exception of white jeans. Jeans are not the best for a heat wave as the material is too thick and does not breathe, so again lighter materials are much more comfortable for pants. Heads up when wearing white avoid all dark liquids! An oops when wearing white  is not an accident but a complete disaster!

What’s you favorite look for a hot summer day?

With Love…

Marta

    Hello Marta,

I agree with silk as a must for summer. It doesnt hold wrinkles at all. I like linen too, despite the wrinkles…however they keep you fresh especially short or knee length dresses.
