Winter Sunglasses

Hello Darlings,The other day as my mom and I were both in a car and spotted an individual with a questionable outfit, or as my mom would say too fashionable. We went into a discussion of fashion over function. Which got me thinking how far out of our comfort do we go for fashion? In essence every part of our outfit carries a function but in today's world how much emphasis do we give aesthetic over function.

In particular one story came into mind as I started to ponder this idea. On one autumn afternoon I was browsing the sunglasses selection of a department store and in the process a lady tried on a few pairs and concluded that winter sunglasses are pretensions. As it should come as no surprise, holding in my opinion takes practice and I blurted out, "actually they're necessary." She picked up a pair and walked away, while I continued my search for a replacement of my beloved Miu Miu sunnies that I drowned back in July during a jet ski accident in Key West. That story I will save for another day because it is a good one!

The thing about sunglasses is that I love them! Not only because they are my antisocial guard for every time I'd like some alone time while having my coffee or when reading a book in a park. Or when I need to feel invisible, a much desired effect after red-eye flights! Finally, I've managed to replace with a new favorite pair of cat eye sunglasses from Dolce & Gabbana. The thing about glasses and I is that I prefer cat eye and in light colors, not the easiest to find. Luckily with over 80,000 items to select from at SmartBuyGlasses.ca I found just the look. I've been ordering my corrective lenses online for years, so getting sunglasses was an easy transition.

One key factor that people don't realize is that sunglasses are as much of a necessity in the winter as they are in the summer. In the same manner we continue applying SPF in the winter we should be protecting our eyes from harmful UV rays too. Since I've been wearing corrective lenses for forever, I've been told a million times to wear sunglasses to protect my eyes. Perhaps as this point it comes as a habit that as soon as the sun's out as are my sunnies.

Sun damage is cumulative and once the damage has been done it cannot be reversed. Consider the following, that during winter months sun sits lower in the sky and at a different angle giving us more exposure. This is especially important on snowy days since snow is very reflective. According to Vision Council of America, up to 85% of the sun's UV rays are reflected upward which cause sunburned eyes. When the surface of eyes is sunburned in a similar way as our skin, it can be very painful and take up to a week to heal. A fashion accessory that is essential for the health of our eyes, yes please! Also, nobody wants to squint.

With that in mind, next time that you're out enjoying a sunny day how about those sunglasses!

With Love...

Marta
