What It Takes To Be Happy?

Hello Darlings, With  this weekend being a long one, I've been spending much of my time at the Veld Music Festival or just catching up on reading and spending time with my family and friends. Which made me think — What makes us happy in life?!

One would think that it is not exactly a tricky question, but after much thought it turned out to be. In a moment of complete happiness we do not stop to think of why we feel that way, however when feeling down we wonder as to what can make us happy in that very instance. That's when we turn to "cheap" tricks likes shopping :)

Over this weekend,  I've come to realize that it is in the moments when I feel at ease and most content that I feel happiest.  I've also  realized that in order to slow down and enjoy those moments it takes effort and not little but in fact a lot.  In life, it is natural to want more — better job, bigger place, more shoes longer vacation, etc. It's this very rabbit hole that throws us off balance and in turn makes it difficult to enjoy moments. Constantly striving for more and pushing your limits without slowing down is exactly what causes us to burn out and become unhappy.

To enjoy a moment, you need to slow down and nowadays that's a luxury. With all the hard work that we put into making our lives better,  it would seem natural to want to appreciate the joy that comes out of it. However instead of slowing down, we chose to push ourselves more.  As it turned out, it is exactly the very thing that we take for granted that makes us happy. Learning to appreciate being in the moment takes effort and it is one of life lessons  that are worth learning. Such moments not only make us happy but bring out the best in us and therefore making it easier to enjoy everything in between.

I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend and if not there's always a next one!

With Love...

Marta
