Apple Pie Trail: Sweet Adventure

Hello Darlings, Always a nature lover — I grew up spending summers at my grandparent's farm in Ukraine — and loving the thrill of adventure, the weekend at Blue Mountain satisfied my inner Marta-the-explorer. Savoring down time at Scandinave Spa and pool time at The Westin Trillium was a treat, but exploring the beauty of Ontario's Apple Country was an experience that I will never forget! To say that it made a lasting impression is an understatement.

We were very lucky to have a guided tour of the region's celebrated Apple Pie Trail by Patti Kendall of Blue Mountain. Her knowledge of the area, love for the community and friendships with the business owners made this one of the best adventures I have ever experienced. There was so much passion in every individual that we met, it was impossible not to be charmed!

Our day began with a visit to Loft Gallery that's well known for spectacular landscape paintings. Most of the panting are done by Ontario and Quebec artists and are inspired by the local region. We then headed over across the street to The Honey House! This home-made Beaver Valley honey is the best I've ever tried and my particular favorite is their Apple Cinnamon Honey! I stocked up for at least for a month and look forward to going back in June, in time for honey combs!

Following our sweet honey tour, we visited The Cheese Gallery for a grilled cheese sandwich lunch. It was a cheese heaven filled with many artisan delights within an art gallery. The concept was unlike anything I've experiences, it offers a true expreince of the area in a setting that is cozy and chic.

After a hearty lunch, we made the short drive to Free Spirit Tours for a kayak adventure down the Beaver River. Growing up in Canada and cottaging every summer, kayaking was one of my dad's and my favorite pastimes. Going down about 5km on a smoothly flowing river was relaxing, rewarding and exhilarating! If you are the adventurous type, try one of their tandem kayaks - some good fun for a couple!

To complete our trip we picked up a few bottles of Iced Apple Cider from Georgian Hills Vineyards and an amazing homemade strawberry rhubarb pie from BlackBird Pie Company.

It was one of those perfect days! I am looking forward to going back and checking out a few other vendors on the Apple Pie trail. It is such an incredible way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

With Love...
