Hello Darlings, It was one of those shaky landings but the unfolding view never ceases to amaze. That’s the thing about New York it always has a way of surprising you regardless of how familiar it may be. Just two weeks prior, I was on the same tarmac of Newark. This time I was back to attend the iconic Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, for the first time. To say that I was excited would be an understatement. Well, excited and with a touch of nerves. How can a girl not be? Mingling with the likes of Nicole Kidman and Kendall Jenner is a challenge but what does a girl wear when the Maison de Chanel is not at her beck and call.
As I checked into my room at the chic 1 Hotel Brooklyn, I was in a daze trying to get ready for a cocktail party that I was an hour late for. Thanks Manhattan traffic. It took me twice as long to get from Newark to Brooklyn than to fly from Toronto to New York. That evening a life lesson was learned, never leave an outfit choice up for a decision when you know you’ll be short on time. Instead I spent the car ride worrying which colour of a dress to wear. Lesson number two was, don’t bring too many choices. Choices always complicate everything.
The sun was just setting over East River, I quickly changed into a pale blue A-line halter dress with a bow at the neck and hoped into a pair of nude pumps. Over sunset champagne reception at the rooftop of our hotel with the spanning views of the Brooklyn Bridge and all of Manhattan, along with the Veuve Clicquot team and renowned polo player Nacho Figures we watched Empire State building light up in Veuve yellow to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Polo Classic.
The following morning as I was waiting for my hair stylist to arrive, I’ve finally decided on a simple beige jumpsuit and a pair of nude sandals for the day. At such times we tend to place unnecessary pressure on ourselves and rather than enjoying the moment we give in to our nerves. All the worries of looking stylish enough went away and I was finally able to relax.
Around 11am along with Veuve Clicquot team, we boarded a ferry for Liberty State Park where the 10th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic was set to take place. The spectacular star studded event and a fast-paced polo match was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris meanwhile the day was kicked off by a striking rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” by Jordan Fisher. This being my second polo match, I was rather surprised as to how well I could follow along and enjoy the game. Once the Veuve Clicquot team claimed the victory, Alicia Keys provided an incredible finale performance with the amazing New York City skyline shining in the background.
As we returned to our hotel, the night was young and the fun was just beginning. Another outfit change into a little black dress and we were off for another adventure!
