Study date with Starbucks and Wang…

Hello Darlings,

Being a student is tough: you sacrifice sleep, food, exercise and overall well-being just for a grade. But hey, it is all part of academia! A world that is full of challenges that supposedly brings out the best in people or at least sparks their inner genius. For whatever reason, my many sleepless nights landed me in the emergency room!

Andrew and I are both students… Well, we are in different stages!

P.S. The stripes were not intentional, just a coincidence 😛

I am doing a specialist in Fine Art and Architecture; meanwhile, Andrew is finishing up his masters in Neuroscience. Let’s just say our academic worlds do not exactly overlap, but our lives do. Having someone who understands you and knows what it is that you’re going through is a wonder. And having that someone to look up to is a blessing. Andrew really does make me want to go that one step farther and try to do my best even when the times get rough (as was the case during my car accident). His success does not only make me feel proud but also makes me strive for something bigger. His goals make my goals grow. It is amazing how far you’re willing to push yourself when someone is there to challenge you… and he challenges me every day.

Being students also restricts us from seeing each other. However, to be able to study together was a skill that took us almost 3 years to learn. He and I were too distracted to actually focus on the school work, but over time, we have finally mastered the skill.

A study date at Starbucks that requires you to sit for hours, study and still look cute is a challenge. But ladies, in no way should you ever go on a date (no matter how long you’ve been together) looking frumpy. Look cute, not for him, but for yourself.  Naturally of course, you should always do everything for yourself but wanting to take that little step to look cute for him is not such a terrible motive.

I am wearing:
T by Alexander Wang Stretch Long Sleeve Dress in grey & arm – from
Julie & Jack Oversize Cardi –  from Winners
A.V. Max Studded Cuff –  from
Marc by Marc Jacobs “miss marc” earrings  –  from Bloomingdales Soho, NYC
Candela “tokyo” brogues in silver – from
Gustto Cokera Purse –  from
Juicy Couture Terry Laptop Bag –  from

No need to go overboard with makeup or heels…just cute and comfortable. I settled for my new T by Alexander Wang dress. I love how beautifully it emphasizes my figure: the stripes perfectly curve in and the cut makes it naturally bunch up at the side. The cut and fit of this dress is phenomenal and I  love how simple it is. Plus, it made me feel fabulous… after all; even if you’re 250 pages into your French textbook…you should look très chic!!! A date is a date… even if it is after years of dating 😛

Well…today is my last exam! I can’t wait to be done as this has been overwhelmingly exhausting year. Wish me luck…off I go to cram the last few things on Kandinsky 😛

However, for my own curiosity…. I would love to know a little bit about you, darlings 🙂 Tell me a little about yourself , are you a student, working, (if you feel comfortable) your age group or name or just anything that you feel like sharing with me! Thank you!

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

With school done for the time being, I will be updating more frequently!  So see you in a little bit!

Happy Tuesday!!!

With Love…

    Hey Marta,

Good luck on your exam tomorrow! I wrote one tonight and have a tax exam on Wednesday and then advanced macroeconomics on Saturday and then I am off to New York on Sunday! I’m super excited because I get to check out the Tim Burton exhibit while I’m there. You’re so close to being done!!

a quick tidbit about myself: i’m technically done my undergrad but i’m working towards getting my chartered accountant designation so I have to do summer school to finish up my accounting courses that are requried and then I will be working downtown starting in the fall! 🙂

  2. April 20, 2010 / 12:37 am

I can so relate to this post. I too sacrifice sleep and exercise (never food, unfortunately! ha!) and I completely agree about how important it is for your significant other to constantly challenge and help you improve yourself…in a supportive way of course. That’s so important to me in a relationship. & that dress looks phenominal on you!

  3. April 20, 2010 / 12:40 am

That dress looks beautiful on you! Congrats on almost being done with all that studying. I know how it is =) X

  4. April 20, 2010 / 12:41 am

Marta, you look so adorable and chic in that dress! It is so perfect! I love what you wrote about Andrew being an inspiration, I think that that’s truly what it should be like in a great relationship! But seriously, I can’t get over how amazing that dress is and how great you look in it! Good luck on your exam, I’m currently in the library studying for mine too (well, clearly slacking!), waiting for my bf to get back from being stranded in London!

  5. April 20, 2010 / 1:05 am

Congrats on your last exam! You’re probably the most stylish student I’ve seen. I know during my five years at uni I was a wreck 🙂 Love your attitude to study and completely understand what it’s like having a bf who encourages you to dream big, it’s the best isn’t it?

    Hello Marta!
Wow that dress is amazing. I want one now 🙁 haha. To be honest, I haven’t been crazy about your last two looks, but this one reminds me why I love your style. It is great.

Good luck on exams. I know how you feel as I am currently studying too 🙁

    • April 20, 2010 / 2:29 am

      Hi Lauren,
Thank you for the luck, good luck to you as well 🙂

As for past few looks, I’ve been testing the waters…everyone needs a chance once in a while. Personally, I love them but I am glad to hear that you like this one. May I ask what it is that you did not like in the other two…I like receiving constructive criticism, it is interesting to hear a different point of view. I would really appreciate it 🙂 thank you!

        April 20, 2010 / 2:45 am

Its not that I do not like the looks, I just meant that personally they are not what I would wear. I do not think I could pull off the sweatpants/cropped pants, and the Ash shoes are definitely not my style. Although I think you can pull this look off.

And as for the other look, there was nothing in particular that I “disliked”. I actually like the pieces individually, but something just seemed off to me. I think the shoes perhaps?

Please don’t take my comment negatively. If anything, I am just trying to say that the majority of the outfits you do post I usually love and that i definitely lust after and the last 2 were just what I thought as not as great as you are capable of 🙂

        • April 20, 2010 / 3:04 am

          Hi Lauren,
Omg….in no way would I ever take your comment negatively!Quite opposite 🙂 I find them refreshing!

I love hearing others opinions and always encourage polite criticism. I was just curious to hear yours 🙂 I do agree with you on a fact that the sweats and ash wedges are exactly the “public-pleasing/liking” choices 😛 … they are one of those things that you either love/or hate/or love then hate 😛 I also think that you’re right about the shoes in the other one, a pair that is more open could work better.

Hope to hear from you soon, and please always feel comfortable enough to express your honest opinion 🙂 I really do appreciate it!

          Wishing you a lovely day!

  7. April 20, 2010 / 10:07 am

I love this outfit, that dress is perfectly flattering on you – looks lovely! I JUST finished my program and came home to the Island this week. Degree two down! But the workload was intense! I barely know what to do with all my free time!

P.S. How cute are you both in your stripes, unintentional or not? Love it.

I’m in my 4th year at one of your rival university’s rival universities and I’m looking forward to starting an MA program in the fall. Where are you headed after this year is over?

    • April 27, 2010 / 10:21 pm

      Hi Alexandra,
That’s awesome, congratulations! I am still staying for another year due to the consequences of a car accident 🙁

Oh my gosh, I LOVE your dress! It is so flattering and beautiful. And you so right, no matter how long you have been with your bf, you should always look cute for a date 🙂

I understand what you mean about studying troubles. I am 21, and just finishing up my MSc in Development. It has been a really tough year and I can’t wait for it to be over! Unfortunately I may have to do a second Masters 🙁 but I am not thinking about it just yet!

  12. April 20, 2010 / 5:31 pm

That dress is BEAUTIFUL. It looks amazing on you too!

  13. April 20, 2010 / 9:25 pm

just graduated from the wonderful school you are currently attending :p….

I agree that no matter how long you have been with someone, look your best for YOU and not necessarily for them (but I am sure they will appreciate it anyways :p)

I love your cardi! I am gessing its the one you got on sale? If you really have the time to look around, you can find some really awesome stuff at Winners!
Glad to hear you and Andrew are doing great… you guys make such a sweet couple

Hope you aced all your exams and are recovering well from it

    • April 20, 2010 / 9:45 pm

      Hey Ashleigh,
Wonderful it is for sure 😛

I got it in the fall but unfortunately not on sale, it was full price but definitely well worth it . Lately (3-4 months) , I’ve been really disappointed with Winners….the selection totally sucks 🙁
      Thanks for the comment 🙂

Marta, I am also studying right now for my final exams which will be next week. I am soooo stressed so its great that your posts are such a refreshing break from programming and electric circuits. Also I feel like I say this often but can’t help receiving your good advice~ do you mind doing a maintaining a skincare/makeup regimen during the test time and busy school year and also just vacationing in this summer heat . I know your weekly news letter had some very informative bits but if you EVER get the chance (after all your upcoming projects are done with) if you could do one more extensively that be great. As always this dress really does your figure justice SIMPLY LOVELY!!!

    • April 27, 2010 / 10:23 pm

      Hi Hikari,
      Thank you!

Of course! I am currently trying out some new products, as soon as I make up my mind I will make a post. Probably in the new few weeks 🙂

  15. April 20, 2010 / 11:48 pm

Congrats on finishing off another school year! It is such a relief- I am three papers and one final away from freedom! I am a nineteen year old student at Suny Binghamton that works a part time job at the university bookstore. As much as I can’t wait for summer, I am nervous about securing an internship! What are your summer plans?

  16. April 21, 2010 / 1:14 am

can you ever take a bad photo? you always look so cute! goodluck this semester =) I think I miss school… I graduated over a year ago so I’m working at the moment

  17. April 21, 2010 / 3:01 am

You look so radiant when you smile! You’re gorgeous. And those brogues are amazing.

  18. April 21, 2010 / 4:40 pm

Studying is hard because you need to push yourself every day, just to get a score. It’s nice if you learn useful thing in the process. But unfortunately, there’re always subjects you just hate.
Good luck there, jump on that horse 😉

    Hi Marta!

Love it – one of your best looks. It actually more chic than simple, since grey is really in right now. I’m near Boston by the way, doing philosophy. (:

    Hey Marta,
This was a great post and I definitely agree that you should never look frump on a date no matter how long you’ve been dating for! It’s important that girls don’t “let themselves go.” Hope your exams go well. Looks like the weather is warming up for you over in Toronto. I love those shoes so much; I remember when you first blogged about them last summer. I’m glad to see you wearing them again with the warm weather!
A little bit about myself…originally from England, grew up in Vancouver, and now attending university in San Francisco. I’m doing my bachelor’s degree in fine art, majoring in fashion journalism, and I’m 22! Anyway, take care of yourself!

This is a great outfit! 🙂 I’m not too crazy about those shoes by themselves, but they look stunning on you. And you’re always gorgeous! Love the coincidental case of the matching stripes.. 🙂

    Have a lovely Thursday!

I graduated with a BA in Psychology and Criminology last June…. found out a year later that a BA isn’t enough to land me a job anymore so now I’m enrolled in a 2 year BTech program in forensic investigation.

Honestly, after university it felt really weird to not go to school when September came along. I missed my campus life and going to lectures/seminars (however, I really didn’t miss exams, haha).

Now that you’re finished exams, what are you up to? Vacations planned for the summer?

    • April 27, 2010 / 10:36 pm

      Hi Jessie,
Your program sounds very interesting, I applied to my university for criminology but switched out in the first week to explore other options 🙂

I am not sure as to what I am going to be doing in the summer, I think I might take a summer course to keep myself occupied. As for vacations…well, those are still in the works 😛

        April 28, 2010 / 3:01 pm

Yeah, there was a lot of flip-flopping for me in my first couple of years. I thought I was going to major in English, then found that my passion was elsewhere.

I don’t know about you, but my first year and a half were a mixed bag of different courses. I’m just going to go on a mini rant– but I have some friends who didn’t go to university because they didn’t know what they wanted to do. Well, university is a good place to go to find out. When I hear people say that, it’s just such a cop out. As far as I know, they stayed home and played video games.

        Ok, done 🙂

        • April 28, 2010 / 3:04 pm

          Hi Jessie,

I’ve been allover the map trying to figure out what I wanted. From Criminology, to philosophy, to sociology, and then finally to fine art and architecture. I’ve takes probably every possible random course in my first two years… 😛 I wasn’t going to settle until I found what I really loved. I think that when it comes to career and education, you will never know what it is that you want until you start trying things.

          P.S. Rants are awesome ! 🙂

  24. April 22, 2010 / 4:30 pm

there are no truer words 🙁 you hope though that a grade is goign to be worth something to your future.. you look incredibly gorgeous .. i lvoe that dress too it fits perfectly
