Hello Darlings, Fashion magazines have always made women believe that it’s sacrilegious not to love wearing heels, but my question of the day is it just as much a sin to prefer wearing flats? In summer, I really do prefer ballerina flats! While I enjoy wearing heels for cocktails, meetings, and going out, for my everyday activities and errands, I always wear ballerinas or flats.

So my question is: are flats less fashionable? And if so, why?
Personally, I don’t understand as to why heels have become such a hyped fashion staple, whereas flats are frowned upon. In my opinion, when worn on a wrong occasion heels ruin a look, and often make you seem as if you’re trying too hard. Yes, heels are fabulous (and do amazing things to your legs) but ballerina flats or classic espadrilles can look just as fabulous.

I refuse to feel that I am less fashionable for wearing ballerinas. Yes, in the world of style blogging not loving heels can be a major fashion faux pas. But let’s be frank, feet swell in the heat and the last thing you want on a long night out on the town is to be stuffed into a pointy stiletto

I AM WEARING: Gap Crewneck Pullover // Marc by Marc Jacobs Big Idea Mirror Watch // BCBG Max Azria Sabrina Lace Skirt // Bravo Browns Leopard Flats
Fashion is all about personal style, so if a woman wants to wear cute ballerina flats why should any magazine make her feel any the less fabulous. My theory is that if I feel adorable in flats or a pair of strap-y sandals then so be it.

Which brings me to my new pair of leopard print ballerina flats! With a simple pullover and a lace skirt they add the perfect pop of color.
I am curious to hear what you think of flats and if in your opinion they are less fashionable than heels?
With Love…

Great post, Marta! I can’t agree with you more – I actually feel more fabulous in flats considering I can move more easily and just generally look more comfortable in my skin. I think beautiful, fashionable flats heighten an outfit that would have generally been so-so and predictable with heels. I still can’t get over the early 2000′s when fashionable flats from Missoni and Valentino came back with a vengeance and every “cool girl” wanted to wear her little cocktail dress with a pair. I think it’s a matter of personal taste (and maybe even personal height!) but I think cute flats add a twist of the unexpected to a night look and a more approachable, feet friendly day look.
Definitely not! Flats can be just as fashionable. If you’re talking about flip-flops, I’d choose heels, but a great ballet flat or sandal can look just as stylish. My favourites are ballet flats & I choose to wear Repetto. Check out my blog to see how I style mine-type in Repetto . x

If you type in repetto, you’ll only get my post about repetto. So I suggest you have a nice browse around at my outfit posts. x
I totally agree! I’m a flats girl 90% of the time.
I agree. I much prefer flats! It’s just much more functional and easier to move around in. Heels are fine for night outs or big events but I prefer flats all the way and always feel chic and comfortable
I agree! heels are magical but sometime,s a good ol’ pair of flats are what you need. plus there are some really nice flats/loafers out there.
p.s your leopard print flats are really cute!
xx
I completely agree, done right flats can look great and stylish. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said:
There is nothing worse than seeing someone wearing something and all you can think is Fashion Victim.
You are definitely NOT less fashionable only because you wear flats! I have to admit, I’m a high-heels-girl, I really do feel uncomfortable wearing flats but you rock that outfit, totally.
And to be honest, what I noticed first on that pic weren’t your flats but the expression on your face and your half-smile that kinda did steal the show from your clothes.
Much love,

I adore your blog! Just discovered it! Who did your logo? Love flats but think they look better on tall women as a heel tends to add height and glamour!
