Hello Darlings, With a cup of fresh brewed coffee and a soothing end of day bath, it’s sinking in how I avoided the ultimate hair catastrophe. Despite being in the trusted hands of Exit Salon’s Rob and Jan, making a “big change” to cut off 4 inches of my hair was still nerve wracking!

Although I trust my stylist, I was still speechless as his scissors gently skimmed across my hair line.  Just like that, 4 inches of my beloved hair were strewn across the floor! Not really sure how to feel, I stared blank at the mirror in front as Jan continued to even out my hair line.  No more layers, no more length, just a clean line falling  slightly below  my shoulders.

With dozens of shoes and no attachment issues, I am contemplating why women are so attached to their hair? And in particular, why is the length such a big deal? After all, hair does grow back! Yet, panic reigns when scissors are involved, to the extent that I would prefer my hair end up green before I would want to lose inches!

I AM WEARING: Gap Crewneck Pullover // Club Monaco Gwen Skirt // Mike & Chris Leather Hoodie Jacket // J.Crew Booker Boots// YSL Arty Ring // Kate Spade Villabella Avenue Purse

The catalyst for my big change is soon I will appear in another hair care video for Dove Canada, showing how their shampoo and conditioner maintain my hair colour. And in the meantime, after a few days living with much shorter hair, I am loving this length! It could have been a tragedy, but maybe most important is that the change was made with friends that I trust (Rob and Jan from Exit Salon recently relocated to join Blyss Salon on Bellair Street in Yorkville – message me if you want their contact info) who made me feel safe and re-assured me the results would be great. Thanks guys!

With Love…

Marta

Marta, your hair looks FABULOUS!! It’s so healthy and shiny!! I would kill to have hair like yours. I can totally see why Dove chose you for a video!! It really doesn’t look like that much of a length difference, but I know that a few inches of our hair can feel like a few feet! I’ve had really long hair my entire life, but was forced to cut 5 inches last year when a hair treatment fried the bottom half of my hair. It was a nightmare but I quickly learned to love the shorter length on me.

The length looks really nice on you. I’m currently debating whether to go through with chopping off a few inches off my hair. Took me so long to grow it out, bur unfortunately it is not as healthy as healthy as I’d like.

    • It’s not so bad a couple of inches, and probably a good idea once in a while. 4 inches was a bit much though :(

Where do you get it cut?

      • Stephanie says:

I get it cut at a small salon in Chinatown. They do a decent job when all I need is a trim, but I have never gotten any major changes done there so I don’t know how good they are when it comes to that. Especially when there is a bit of a language barrier. Contemplating on going somewhere else where I know that the stylist will understand what I have in mind.

Your hair is about the same length as mine! :) I cut about four or five inches off in August when my hair started falling out a great deal — by myself too! (My friend who is a hairdresser straightened it out afterwards, ahem..) I know what you mean about the attachment one has with one’s hair.. but yes, it does grow back! And to be honest, it was super fun, taking the scissors to my locks. :P

    P.S. You look lovely.

I totally love the new cut. I chopped off a few inches last month as well because I felt I kept delaying cutting off my dead and dry hair ends. Now it’s still pretty long, but all one length, and a lot healthier. I can’t wait to see your series for Dove!

    Hey Marta…your hair looks fab!
I cut off about 10 inches of my hair back in May (donated it to charity). I’m trying to grow it back now …I miss my long hair!

  7. Love your new ‘do!
